'925: A Sterling Anniversary

You’re cordially invited to celebrate a silver jubilee with ACAD’s Jewellery + Metal (J+M) program and wearable art history. This ‘sterling’ event will bring together 25 years’ worth of faculty, students and staff who will revel in the program’s rich history and look towards its exciting future.

Your ticket purchase provides you with full access to five exclusive events and proceeds go towards supporting the Jewellery + Metals student programming. 

The five events are:

‘Chasing the Silver Line’ Exhibition + ‘925 Launch Party*

Thursday, February 25 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Room 371, Alberta College of Art + Design

“Chasing the Silver Line” will have J + M alumni exhibiting works with current students of the program. The exhibitors involved have taken different creative directions and their pieces will reflect the artists’ current practice. Jewellery, wearable art and fine art, and small sculptures will be on display.  Light refreshments and a cash bar will be available.

925: A Sterling Anniversary Reception

Thursday, February 25 from 8 to 10 p.m.
ACAD Café, Alberta College of Art + Design

The reception will feature a presentation of The Silver Screen, a retrospective of work created from the J + M program’s faculty, alumni and students.  As well, J + M alumae Shona Rae will be performing with her band Shona Rae and the Voo Doo Hand. A cash bar will be available.

Under the Silvery Moon Studio Crawl*

Friday, February 26 from 5 to 9 p.m.

Take a look behind the scenes and see the studios of some notable J + M alumni. Artists Shona Rae, Louise Chong, Mona Hayes, Linda Chow, Cry Harse and Jeff deBoer are opening up their workshops and inviting you in to sneak a peek of the wonder world of jewellery making and metalsmithing.

*Participants will be responsible for their own transportation to and from the studios

Silver Tongued Conversations

Saturday, February 27 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Stanford Perrott Lecture Theatre, Alberta College of Art + Design

This is a full day of conversations with ACAD J+M alumni sharing their creative journey. You will get a chance to interact with faculty, past and present, and meet alumni throughout the decades. It's a great opportunity to network, meet friends (old and new!) and share a giggle.

Gem Bash

Sunday, February 28 from 1 to 5 p.m.
ACAD Café, Alberta College of Art + Design

Gemstones have mystified people for ages, used as accents for beautiful adornments, and even believed by some to have energy properties for healing and meditative purposes.

The Jewellery + Metals Program welcomes eight gem Dealers to display and sell one-of-a-kind semi-precious and precious gems. These dealers will showcase a variety of cut specimens from around the world and are generous supporters of our students in the J + M program.

What does 925 mean? 

925 is the mark used to identify the alloy of Sterling Silver. Sterling silver is used for making jewellery, flat wear, bowls and coinage and traditionally marks a 25 year anniversary.
