Artist Talk: Su Ying Strang

Su Ying Strang is an artist and cultural worker based in Calgary, Alberta.

Hailing from the southern United States, Strang relocated to Canada in 2006 to pursue her BFA from the Alberta College of Art + Design.

In addition to her studio practice, Strang is the Director of The New Gallery, and the President of the Alberta Association of Artist-Run Centres.

Artist Talk: Deborah Schwartzkopf

Deborah Schwartzkopf was born and raised in Seattle. From 1999-2002 she earned her BA at the University of Alaska and worked for studio potters in the Anchorage area.  After a year of independent study at San Diego State University, Deborah completed her MFA at Penn State in 2005.

Artist Talk: Jason de Haan + Miruna Dragan

Please join us for an artist talk with Miruna Dragan and Jason de Haan who will be talking about their filmic work The Wood and Wave Each Other Know, which is currently on view in the Illingworth Kerr Gallery as part of their current exhibition, Performing the Landscape. In addition, the artists will be speaking about other projects they have been a part of that are collaborative and site-specific in relation to landscape.

Artist Talk: Barbara Milne

Barbara Milne spent the past 18 months enthralled by the vast assortment of articles amassed by Peter and Catharine Whyte in their beloved log home. Items from their travels, gifts from relatives and friends, and purposeful or random purchases chronicle their eclectic interests and lifestyles. Milne’s enthusiastic immersion included the Whyte Museum’s vaults, where thousands of works of art and antiquities are preserved and stored.

Artist Talk: Chris Fritton

WHEN: Thurs, Oct 13 from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m.

WHERE: Stanford Perrott Lecture Theatre, ACAD

Chris Fritton is the Itinerant Printer. Since 2015, he has been visiting letterpress print shops across America and Canada, producing unique prints at each venue culled from their idiosyncratic collections of wood type, metal type, cuts, ornaments, and polymer plates.

These prints will be mailed back to followers and supporters of the project as postcards (and care packages) from the road.
