Altered Environments/Tidalectics

Altered Environments, curated by April Flanders, is a printmaking portfolio responding to the issue of marine bio invasions.

The portfolio includes 23 national and international artists from diverse backgrounds, utilizing a wide range of styles and print techniques. Marine bio invasions are the conceptual starting place for these prints, which will be prominently exhibited at the 11th International Marine Bioinvasions Conference in Annapolis, MD in 2023. Aquatic invasive species are a true threat to biodiversity around the world. Artists were encouraged to consider the many ecosystems that are currently under threat from marine bioinvaders.

Tidalectics, organized by Dutch-Canadian artist Eveline Kolijn (BFA '18, Print Media), is an art-science portfolio based around an experiment to create an oceanic worldview. Eleven international printmakers collaborated with marine biology researchers to create a print based on the research from the scientist for the portfolio.
