DaveandJenn: We were all here

TrépanierBaer is pleased to announce the opening of "DaveandJenn: We were all here," an exhibition of new and recent work.

Anchoring the exhibition and on view for the first time in Western Canada is the immersive and enchanting sylvan installation titled A Forest Song. Commissioned by the Bank of Montréal, this work was over a year in the making, and premiered in the BMO Project Room to Toronto audiences in early 2020.

DaveandJenn: We were all here is also premiering a new series of paintings that depict fantastical forest scenes, and new sculptures of diminutive and fanciful creatures that have emerged from these woods. With respect to the installation, Nancy Tousley noted the following:

A Forest Song brings aspects of painting and sculpture together with new media and technology to create “a painting you can walk into,” with larger-than-life birds, and an accompanying soundtrack of a gentle wind that carries the dulcet sounds of chirping birds. The forest has long been an important theme for DaveandJenn, who began as painters, exploring the deep space of painting in works that grew to five inches thick. Admitting light, shadows and reflections into their piled-on images, their paintings became dense environments.

DaveandJenn are David Foy (BFA ’06, Painting) and Jennifer Saleik (BFA ’06, Painting).
