Craft + Emerging Media
Barbara Sutherland’s area of research entails a cross-disciplinary approach to working with cloth, sculpture and installation. This research is guided by the theory and practice of topology and phenomenology, and is a means of fuelling and developing a corporeal and spiritual awareness.
The sensory experience of place, privileging the tactile, guides my investigation into spatial relationships. Writer Denis Hollier said, “...it is possible to see without being seen but it is not possible to touch without at the same time being touched. One never emerges intact from any contact.”
