Student Show + Sale gets ready for the holidays by offering one-of-a-kind handmade items

ACAD Students’ Association + ACAD open their doors with an expanded offering

Calgary, AB – Fill your home with inimitable art and handmade items at the Alberta College of Art + Design Students Association (ACADSA) Winter Show + Sale November 17-19, 2016.

Support Alberta’s emerging artists by purchasing work representing several of the institution’s programs including: painting, drawing, glass, fibre, printmaking, sculpture, photography, ceramics, and jewellery and metals. This is one of the first opportunities that ACAD students have to develop their entrepreneurial skills and profit from selling what they make.

Celebrating more than 25 years of creative and maker culture, student advocacy and wellness, ACADSA boasts a rising participation in the Show and Sale. With almost 200 artists showcasing their talent, Show + Sale welcomes the public to view and purchase from over 3,000 pieces of handmade works. All proceeds of the students’ sales either goes directly to the artist or benefits current students through ACADSA programming.

With over 30% of ACAD graduates going on to pursue their own entrepreneurial work, Show + Sale provides students with the opportunity to develop the skills and experience necessary to build a successful art practice after graduation.

“Show + Sale is a tremendous opportunity for our artists to support their peers, celebrate student creativity, and share their work with the Calgary Community,” says Lisa Sudeikat, ACADSA President. “It is so exciting to be a part of because it has such a huge impact on student success here at ACAD.”

The sale kicks off with the First Night Fundraiser on Thursday, November 17 from 5-8 p.m. Along with the company of like-minded community art supporters, attendees receive advance access to a wide variety of original artworks as well as the opportunity to mingle with participating artists.

Admission on Friday, November 18 from 12 until 7 p.m. and Saturday, November 19 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. will be general admission by donation.

Whatever your preference you’ll find it here, with work being represented from several of the College’s programs including: painting, drawing, glass, fibre, printmaking, sculpture, photography, ceramic, and jewellery.

Show your support this winter for students and the advancement of art, craft and design education, by supporting Alberta’s emerging young artists at Show + Sale, November 17-19, 2016.
