AUArts Alumni Jocelyn Reid wins 2021 Winifred Shantz Award for Ceramics

Congratulations to alum and Educational Art Technician Jocelyn Reid, BFA ’13, Ceramics for winning the prestigious 2021 Winifred Shantz Award for Ceramics. Reid has been awarded $10,000 and will participate with the finalists in a group exhibition in The Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery from September 11, 2021 – January 9, 2022. Reid will also be invited to present an artist talk at a reception this fall, either online or in person.

AUArts would also like to congratulate alum Matthew O’Reilly, MFA ’20, Craft Media for being chosen as a finalist.

The Winifred Shantz Award for Ceramics allows emerging ceramic artists to undertake a period of independent research, or other activities that advance their artistic and professional practice. The selection is made by a jury of respected ceramic artists and other art professionals. Reid is a ceramic and mixed media artist from Mohkinstsis (Calgary), Alberta. Reid received a BFA in Ceramics from Alberta University of the Arts in 2013 and has since exhibited work throughout North America and Europe. Reid has received many awards, including the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Scholarship, as well as individual project grants from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts and the Canada Council for the Arts. Reid has participated in residencies at the Archie Bray Foundation (Montana), The Banff Centre (Alberta), and Guldagergaard ICRC (Skælskør, Denmark). She is currently the Educational Art Technician for Ceramics at Alberta University of the Arts.
