AUArts Partners with PARK and Southcentre Mall to create “Eat & Seek”

Alberta University of the Arts has partnered with PARK (Promoting Artists Redefining Kulture) and Southcentre Mall to create an outdoor experience celebrating the launch of summer while supporting local eateries. Located at the northeast corner of the mall near the main entrance, the bright and cheery “Eat & Seek” display includes two self-seating patios encouraging visitors to grab take-out from the mall and restaurant vendors.

Six talented AUArts students submitted artwork and were chosen to work with mentors and alumni Shannon Hewlko, BDes ’10, VCD and DeAnne Bedier, BDes ’02, VCD. First-year student Jayden Manzara’s submission was selected to be displayed as part of the onsite installation. The remaining five students will have their submissions shared online. The original concept and artwork was created by AUArts Alum Nicole Wolf, BDes ’15, VCD and Edmonton artist Chris Provins.

The unique outdoor dining experience and art installation features an interactive landscape of typography and shapes encouraging exploring and play. The senses come alive with bright colours and designs, wordplay with hidden messages, a large word search, unconventional hopscotch, and puddles of magnetic colour in a mysterious grid.

“Eat & Seek” at Southcentre Mall can be enjoyed until Fall 2021.
