AUArts Presents Virtual Convocation Ceremony and Grad Show 2020
Alberta University of the Arts will celebrate the graduating Class of 2020 with a virtual Convocation ceremony, immediately followed by the launch of a new website featuring the Grad Show 2020 exhibition. AUArts moved quickly to ensure that the Convocation ceremony date originally planned for students was not missed or postponed when classes moved to an online delivery model due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The virtual ceremony is scheduled to take place on the original scheduled Convocation date of May 20, 2020.
The public is invited to experience the Illingworth Kerr Gallery exhibition Grad Show 2020 when it launches immediately after the Convocation ceremony. Grad Show 2020 exhibition will go live online May 20, 2020 at 11:30am: www.auartsgrad.ca
“While the Convocation Ceremony will be held virtually, and the Grad Show will be hosted on a new purpose-built digital platform, there are exciting plans underway to ensure this milestone celebration will be as memorable and unique as possible,” said president and CEO Dr. Daniel Doz.
The university celebrates approximately 200 graduates annually who receive Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Design degrees in an annual Convocation ceremony every May. Recognizing that students are missing out on the special opportunity to participate in a traditional staged ceremony this year, AUArts has also confirmed that all 2020 graduates are also invited to participate and walk the stage at Convocation 2021.
Immediately following the virtual Convocation ceremony, AUArts launches a new custom-built Grad Show website which will take the traditional exhibition curated by the university’s Illingworth Kerr Gallery into a digital space. Each AUArts graduate may exhibit a piece in the Grad Show exhibition, as well as display a portfolio of work on their own individual profile page for one full year.
The website has been built in partnership with the creative team from Calgary’s, Evans Hunt, a local digital communications agency founded by AUArts alumni. AUArts is also collaborating with Calgary alumni-founded design and post-production creative firm, Studio Dialog, to produce the virtual ceremony.
