AUArts signs new contract with president and CEO Dr. Daniel Doz for third term

Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts) Board of Governors, announced that effective April 14, 2020 the university has entered into a new five-year contract to 2025 with Dr. Daniel Doz as President and CEO.

This new contract provides AUArts with much-needed continuity in leadership as the university navigates the future.

Dr. Doz joined the institution 2010 as president and CEO when it was operating as Alberta College of Art and Design (ACAD). Under his leadership, ACAD restructured its Schools of learning, launched the first MFA in Craft Media in Canada, and guided the successful transition from a College to Alberta University of the Arts in 2019, establishing the institution as the only art, craft and design University on the prairies and one of only four in Canada.

“Dr. Daniel Doz, over the past ten years in his role as President and CEO, has demonstrated exemplary leadership of our institution; first as ACAD and then through our transition to AUArts and our University status. Under his leadership there has been extensive organizational change and planning that led to our acceptance as a University. During this time there have been many hard financial decisions as well as opportunities,” said Carol Ryder, Board Chair, AUArts Board of Governors.  “Dr. Doz’s governance skills and experience have collectively navigated ‒ with the AUArts President’s Cabinet, faculty and staff ‒ in advancing AUArts internally, with Advanced Education, Campus Alberta and stakeholders.”

Born in Montreal and educated in France, Dr. Doz has a wide range of academic experience that spans several disciplines including art, cinema, photography, theatre, and architecture. He holds a Doctorate in Theatrical and Cinematographic Studies from the Université de Paris VIII, and is licensed as an architect by the Government of France. His scholarly, research and creative activities have been focused on themes in cinema, photography, and architecture. His photographs have been published and his photographic work has been presented in solo exhibits throughout the U.S. as well as in France. His research on film and design has led to presentations at numerous institutions in North America and Europe.

“Additionally, at this time we would be remiss in not extending our gratitude as a Board to Dr. Daniel Doz for his steady and wise leadership through COVID-19 and to all the AUArts Community for their role in the proactive on-going response during this unprecedented time in our and AUArts history,” said Carol Ryder.
