AUArts Students’ Association Annual Handmade Art Market Launches Online Show + Sale

Show + Sale June 19 – 26, 2021

Be one of the first to experience the latest handmade work from the designers, craftspeople and artists at Alberta University of the Arts Students’ Association (AUArts SA) Show + Sale June 19-26, 2021. For the first time in the art sale’s almost 30-year history, the sale will take place online at Students will showcase hundreds of pieces of artwork to explore and purchase.

Patrons will have the opportunity to purchase work representing a range of disciplines including Painting, Drawing, Glass, Jewellery and Metals, Fibre, Printmaking, Sculpture, Media Arts, Photography, Ceramics, and Design.  All of the funds raised go directly to students and their participation helps develop entrepreneurial skills with nearly a third of AUArts graduates going on to start their own businesses.

“For almost 30 years, Show + Sale has offered Calgary’s emerging artists, designers and craft-makers a public platform to present their original, handcrafted work in a retail market setting,” said Joel Farris, Career Development Program Manager for AUArts SA. “Just the simple experience of having someone select student work for purchase provides validation, encouragement and momentum to their developing artistic careers.”

The virtual online market will open Saturday, June 19 at 10am and runs for one week, closing at midnight Saturday, June 26. Curbside pickup at Alberta University of the Arts takes place July 2-4, 2021. All pieces purchased at this inaugural online event must be picked up at a designated location on the university grounds.

Show + Sale is the AUArts Students’ Association art market that provides students with the opportunity to showcase their professional work in a public retail setting. Usually, the sale is held at the university campus and attracts over 1,500 customers, providing emerging artists with a tremendous opportunity to market their skills. For the first time in June 2021, Show + Sale is being hosted online on a custom-built platform.
