CBC names alumni work in list of best Canadian comics of 2019

Congratulations to AUArts alumni Kyle Simmers (BDes '17, Illustration) and Ryan Danny Owen (BFA '17, Drawing) who have been named in the CBC's Best Canadian Comics of 2019 list for their work "Pass Me By".

The graphic novel tells the story of a queer rural Canadian tragedy following Ed, an elderly man recently diagnosed with dementia and his past touring across Canada with a glam rock band.

Praised by critics, it is published by Renegade Arts Entertainment.

“The publisher calls it “a queer, rural, Canadian, romantic tragedy.” I call it delightful. It’s gorgeous, clever and perfectly paced, with fully formed characters from the first panel.”
– Mike Donachie, Toronto Star
