President’s Cup 20/21
President and CEO Dr. Daniel Doz annually invites calls for submission from ceramic students for the President’s Cup. The chosen student creates a set of mugs and bowls that is used during the next academic year at Board of Governors meetings and other President’s Office meetings and events.
Alberta University of the Arts is pleased to announce the President’s Cup 20/21 creator is recent alum Sarah Caine BFA ’20, Ceramics.
The cups and bowls Caine created merge multiple ceramic techniques. According to Caine, “I wanted to explore 3D printing technology, but pay homage to the ceramic production history of slip casting. 3D technology is rather new, but like the throwing wheel, it is meant to be used as a tool to create, not as a means to bring about the ‘death of craft’. These mugs and bowls are a formation of new and old ceramic techniques to create vessels that can be enjoyed by maker and users alike.”
