Alberta University of the Arts is pleased to welcome Spilios Kousinioris, Ashif Merani and A. Stewart Hanlon to our Board of Governors. All three of the board members have enjoyed successful careers in leadership and governance. We asked each of them what their greatest strength is and what they will bring to our Board:
A. Stewart Hanlon
“My greatest strength would be my experience in the finance function and collaborating with people to strive in achieving a unified goal.
Primarily my background is finance and accounting, a lot of mergers and acquisitions experience and working with a lot of boards. I look forward to the opportunity.”
“I do a lot of work in corporate governance and procedures to satisfy policies, drafting policies and providing good corporate governance guidelines. My strength is primarily from the legal side and that is the reason why I am here.”
“The artist community has been near and dear to me, I met my bride in music school many years ago. I’m very interested also in Post-Secondary Education. The Province of Alberta has given so much to me and my family, I am happy to be giving something back. In terms of what I personally bring to the Board, I have run a fairly large company and have learned the importance of deep listening skills, of collaboration, and trying to marry immediate action to a longer-term strategic plan and goals, so hopefully I will bring some focus to that aspect of it and help the Board help the University to achieve its aims.”
