Purple Shirt Day Workshop
The AUArts Lodgepole Center is pleased to host an upcoming workshop with a guest speaker from the Centre for Sexuality for Purple Shirt Day.
Becoming an Ally: Being an Active Bystander
In this workshop we will discuss the impact of oppression on 2SLGBTQ+ students and explore their own experiences of power and privilege. Participants will review strategies to address bullying and prevent harassment towards gender and sexually diverse people. Participants will leave this workshop with a tool to address discriminatory behaviours in a way that empowers the person experiencing harassment, while providing teachable moments to those engaging in it.
What is Purple Shirt Day?
Spirit Day is an annual 2SLGBTQ+ event started in 2010 by Brittany McMillan to raise awareness of bullying related suicides in the 2SLGBTQ+ community. Each year students, educators and allies bring attention to the need for safer and more inclusive learning and working environments for 2SLGBTQ+ people.
On October 15 wear purple to show your support for 2SLGBTQ+ and take a stand against bullying.
