Fictive Space
Judith Scwarz & Arlene Stamp
Fictive Space, a collaborative installation by Ontario artists Judith Schwarz and Arlene Stamp created especially for The Illingworth Kerr Gallery at the Alberta College of Art, opens Friday, January 14 at 8 pm.
Schwarz, a sculptor, and Stamp, a painter, write: "Beginning in February, 1992, through a series of discussions and written exchanges, we clarified many creative and conceptual overlaps in our individual practices. Besides the evident use of geometric abstraction, we share an underlying subversive stance to our respective disciplines ... For the exhibition, each artist will ... [push] the boundaries .... Arlene Stamp will remove the 'painting' from the wall ... while Judith Schwarz will locate the 'sculpture' on the site of painterly illusion in her dissolution of the opaque wall."
The exhibition will be on view through January 27.
The Illingworth Kerr Gallery will publish a catalogue to accompany the exhibition. The catalogue essay is by Thomas McEvilley.
