Serge Murphy
Serge Murphy conjures exquisitely balanced assemblages out of the fragments and remnants of ordinary things. Groupings of these small 'totems' on the floor or ' reliefs' on the wall have the general appearance of a 'carnival' stage set or even some 'retro' store display.
Our experience becomes a magical mystery tour through our memories, associations and imaginings.
Serge Murphy lives and works in Montreal. Although he has exhibited extensively in eastern Canada in New York and Paris, this exhibition, comprising three installations, will be his first major show in Calgary. Mr. Murphy will be in attendance for the opening.
Curated by Assistant Curator of the Illingworth Kerr Gallery, Richard Gordon.
