Tour the exhibition, ANTHRO-OBSCENE (and Other Works) with artist Adrian Stimson (BFA ’03, Painting).
Adrian Stimson is a member of the Siksika (Blackfoot) Nation in southern Alberta, Canada, an internationally recognized interdisciplinary artist and a member of the AUArts Board of Governors. His practice spans performance, sculpture, installation and painting. The latter works are varied but often depict bison in imagined landscapes that are melancholic, memorializing, and sometimes whimsical. They evoke ideas of cultural fragility, resilience and nostalgia.
Stimson’s many accolades include the Blackfoot Visual Arts Award in 2009, the Alberta Centennial Medal in 2005 and the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal in 2003. In 2017 he was awarded the REVEAL Indigenous Arts Award from the Hnatyshyn Foundation, and in 2018 the Governor General Award for Visual and Media Arts. His works are in numerous public collections including The British Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts Montreal, Art Gallery of Ontario, Canadian Museum of Civilization, First Nations University of Canada, and Nickle Galleries.
This event is offered live in-person only.
Everyone is welcome.
