Archives of Sexuality and Gender: LGBTQ History and Culture Since 1940

With material drawn from hundreds of institutions and organizations, including both major international activist organizations and local, grassroots groups, the documents in the Archives of Sexuality and Gender: LGBTQ History and Culture since 1940, Part I present important aspects of LGBTQ life in the second half of the twentieth century and beyond. The archive illuminates the experiences not just of the LGBTQ community as a whole, but of individuals of different races, ethnicities, ages, religions, political orientations, and geographical locations that constitute this community. Historical records of political and social organizations founded by LGBTQ individuals are featured, as well as publications by and for lesbians and gays, and extensive coverage of governmental responses to the AIDS crisis.

This art research database covers a broad range of subjects from fine, decorative and commercial art, to various areas of architecture and architectural design. It features full-text articles, indexing and abstracts for an array of journals, books and more.


The Artstor Digital Library is an image database featuring a range of images from some of the world's leading museums, photo archives, scholars, and artists in one easily-navigated repository. All images are accompanied by comprehensive metadata and are rights-cleared for educational use. Note: See My library account for details on registering and creating a personal account for full access to Artstor resources. As of 2021, more than 95% of ArtStor collections are also visible on JSTOR. 

NOTE: By summer 2023, all ArtStor collections, including the AUArts Teaching Image Collection will be available on JSTOR.

Access to over 125 years of Calgary Herald news coverage (1883-2010). More recent coverage (delayed 1 day) can be accessed through the Canadian Newsstream database.

Provides access to current Canadian news content with archives as far back as the 1970s, from over 360 news sources.

JSTOR Arts & Sciences + Essentials collections have extensive coverage in the humanities, social sciences and sciences, including literature, film, art, music, religion, classical studies, history, education, economics, political science, and sociology. This collection includes Full text articles, and a broad range of subjects.



Unlimited access to over 24,000 films and documentaries from the Criterion Collection, Kino Lorber, A&E and A24. Instructors can embed video links directly into their course content.


Library Stack

Library Stack provides access to a variety of digital materials covering the topics of art, design, theory, and architecture. It is a database, archive, publisher, and distributor. MasterFILE Premier

Contains full text for general reference magazines and publications that cover a wide-range of subject areas including business, health, education, general science and multicultural issues. PDF backfiles are available as far back as 1922 for key publications including American Libraries, Foreign Affairs, History Today, Library Journal, National Review, Saturday Evening Post and more. In addition, Science News is available in HTML back to 1975.

MLA Handbook Plus

Access the ninth edition of the MLA Handbook online through MLA Handbook Plus. NFB Campus

Oxford Art Online

Database allows users to access—and simultaneously cross-search—an expanding range of Oxford’s acclaimed art reference works: Grove® Art Online, the Encyclopedia of Aesthetics, The Oxford Companion to Western Art, and The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Art Terms, as well as many specially commissioned articles and bibliographies.

Oxford English Dictionary

The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) is widely regarded as the accepted authority on the English language. It is an unsurpassed guide to the meaning, history, and pronunciation of 600,000 words— past and present—from across the English-speaking world. As a historical dictionary, the OED is very different from Dictionaries of current English, in which the focus is on present-day meanings. You’ll still find present-day meanings in the OED, but you’ll also find the history of individual words, and of the language.
