Bill Gardner Award Fund

Bill Gardner was an artist who loved to learn. He was always incorporating new tools and processes in his work. That was part of the reason why Alberta University of the Arts was such a big part of his life. It was a place where he could constantly explore ideas and techniques, from glassblowing to bronze casting to CNC carving. He also loved the community – the teachers, the technicians, the cleaning staff, and the students.

Bill had a gift for bringing out creativity in others. He was generous with his time and his knowledge, and always happy to help someone bring their work to life. He was committed to creativity, and he fueled his own creativity through constantly producing new work. Bill was truly a unique and wonderful person, a larger-than-life character with a pirate's bandana and gold earing, a flowing beard and an anti-authoritarian personality to match. He will always be remembered for his big smile and his love of life, friends, family and art.

Your donation to the Bill Gardner Award will greatly assist in funding the award to support second-year BFA students.
