This course introduces learners to the fundamentals of nonprofit and purpose-driven organizations, focusing on how these organizations are structured and operate in alignment with specific missions and values. Designed for individuals interested in nonprofit careers or volunteering, this micro delves into mission and vision alignment, and foundational networking skills.

Community Outreach and Volunteer Engagement
Next course starts August 5, 2025
This course provides the tools and knowledge needed to foster meaningful community engagement and effectively manage volunteer relationships. Coursework focuses on defining clear objectives, identifying target communities, creating strategic engagement plans, conducting outreach activities, and building long-term partnerships to obtain volunteers. Additionally, it emphasizes strategies for recruiting, training, and retaining volunteers, addressing their wellness and motivation, and fostering trust.

Funding & Proposal Development
Next course starts November 4, 2025
This course explores diverse funding sources, including grants, donations, and sponsorships, and teaches strategic research techniques for identifying viable funding opportunities. Learners will gain practical skills in grant writing, proposal research and development, with an emphasis on having an impact on potential funders and growing community trust.

The Power of Storytelling
Next course starts November 4, 2025
This course is designed to help learners harness storytelling as a leadership and influence tool within professional contexts. Moving beyond communication basics, the Power of Storytelling invites learners to explore how personal and organizational narratives shape culture, values, and vision. Through immersive activities, learners will examine how to identify and refine authentic voices, frame stories to influence decision-making, and build trust through vulnerability and transparency. Emphasis is placed on using narrative to lead change, foster inclusion, and connect with varied audiences—whether in a team huddle, a boardroom, or an online campaign.

Developing Impactful Communications
Next course starts September 2, 2025
This course focuses on the art and science of crafting compelling narratives that resonate with target audiences. Learn to structure communications that evoke emotion, build connections, and convey key messages effectively. Tailor communication to various platforms and purposes, from branding and marketing to advocacy.

Completion Requirements
To earn AUArts' Nonprofit Advocacy Professional Certificate, you must successfully complete all five courses listed above.
Students have up to five years to complete the program. Before finishing your final course, you must submit the Professional Certificate Declaration Form to Continuing Education at coned@auarts.ca.
Upon completion, you will receive a non-credit Certificate in Nonprofit Advocacy, awarded by Alberta University of the Arts' School of Continuing Education and Professional Development.
