Alum Jared Last wins 2022 RBC Award for Glass

Revelstoke, BC artist and AUArts Alum Jared Last, BFA '16, Glass has been awarded the 2022 RBC Award for Glass. He will receive $10,000 to undertake a residency and continue his creative exploration to advance his artistic and professional practice. His work in glass combines his interest in architectural design, pattern and optical art to create interactive vessels and sculptural forms that maximize the unique material properties of glass.

Later this year Jared’s work will be featured in an awards exhibition alongside RBC Award finalists and artists Charlie Larouche-Potvin, Jeanne Létourneau, and Jérémie St-Onge, as well as the winner and finalists of the 2022 Winifred Shantz Award for Ceramics. The award finalists will receive a $1,000 award to support the development of their practice. The exhibition will provide a rare opportunity for these emerging makers to share their work with an extensive audience while helping to build their careers.

The 2022 RBC Award for Glass was juried by Laura Donefer, Dr. Juliette MacDonald, and Julia Reimer.

On reviewing the submissions and selecting Jared Last as this year’s winner, the jurors state: Jared’s work is striking, and he is clearly fully dedicated to the discipline and enthusiastic to develop as an artist whilst also supporting new workers in the field.
