"Our Stories, Our Voices, Our Ways" Exhibition

"Our Stories, Our Voices, Our Ways" is a group exhibition featuring students from the AUArts Lodgepole Center & Aahwaatkamooksi Peer Mentor Program.

It is an opportunity for Indigenous artists to share their story and honour the knowledge and brilliance given to them by the land and by our ancestors. They hope to create a future that emphasizes love, care, and connection.

This exhibition is curated by AUArts students Stephanie One Spot, Morgan Black and AJ Kluck and opens on Tuesday, June 21, National Indigenous Peoples Day.

Artist Statement

We have been telling stories since time immemorial. Storytelling is how we share our experience of the world with others, and no one else can tell our stories as reliably as we can. The Lodgepole Center’s Aahwaatkamooksi Peer Mentorship Program at Alberta University of the Arts brings together Indigenous artists for a visual arts exhibition.

A celebration of us and all that we do.

We are sovereign. We are connected. We are proud.

Walk for Reconciliation 2022

The annual Walk for Reconciliation began in 2009, as a partnership between the Trellis Society and the Aboriginal Friendship Center of Calgary, to commemorate former Prime Minister Stephen Harper's formal apology to the survivors of Indian Residential Schools. It was originally held on June 11, then moved to June 21, National Indigenous Peoples Day, to acknowledge the larger conversation and active movement towards Reconciliation.

All are welcome to join the Walk for Reconciliation 2022 on June 21, 8 am - 11:30 am.
