RekindleArcylic & Colored Pencil Children are the light of the world, but the bulb extinguishes over time. Maturity is an inevitable state, one that we all encounter as we witness the world around us shift. It is rooted in our experiences, our choices, and self-awareness. Many unwelcome things force us into that state of maturity; relationships, responsibility, and loss. These are all examples of what shaped me into who I am today. As a result, I forgot what it was like to be full of youth. To be innocent and pure—how I once was, before I was tackled by the adversities of life. "Rekindle" depicts the relationship between innocence and maturity, featuring two versions of myself placed in contrasting environments. It shows an engaged child, and a paused, hesitant adolescent. The child appears as a memory, radiating light from inside the window that quietly reaches my present self. This piece is ultimately a reminder that I shouldn’t let experiences hold me back from what I’m truly meant to pursue. We know that things cannot return to their original state, but we are still capable of relearning from the past, and using it as we move forward, to prosper and to live fully. |
