Still, It Passed

Acrylic Paint on Canvas Board 18" x 14"

My idea for this piece was to capture shooting star and the quiet act of stargazing to convey a different perspective on time and change. Depicting a solitary figure lying in the snow, fully immersed in the surrounding landscape, emphasizes a connection to the experience. I chose to abstract the colour palette, heightening pinks within the night sky to create a softer, more calming atmosphere that contrasts with the transience of the event. I incorporated painterly mark-making to add texture to the snow and allow the trees to recede into the background without becoming oversimplified silhouettes. I wanted to emphasize the sky as the focus, while the snow and figure provide a visual grounding base and balance the diagonally symmetrical star. This symmetry also enhances the juxtaposition of the person’s stillness and the star's motion. This piece suggests that the value of the moment lies not in its duration, but in the act of noticing it.
