Artist Talk with Mell Edwards

Learn more

Join interdisciplinary artist, curator, and designer Mell Edwards for an in-person artist talk.

Mell Edwards (MFA '25, Craft Media) is a Trinidadian-born, Canadian interdisciplinary artist, curator, and graphic designer. A graduate of the School of Art, she recently completed her MFA in Craft Media at AUArts, where she focused on the folklore of her homeland through textile manipulation and graphic novelling—while challenging herself to write in Trinidad Creole.

Her multidisciplinary practice spans embroidery, beading, natural dyes, weaving, tapestry, painting, sculpture, installation, comics, and photography. When not creating, she enjoys fantasy and horror novels, films, and anime—and humorously laments her inability to keep plants alive. Mell currently serves as Co-Director of Stride Art Gallery in Calgary.

Artist Statement: My brain is an orchard of chaos that occasionally produces fruit.
