Artist talk with Shona Rae to discuss her Discovery Gallery exhibition, "Converse Subversives."

Join the Alberta Craft Council for an informative talk with artist Shona Rae (BFA ‘00, Jewellery and Metals) about her exhibition, Converse Subversives.

In her exhibition, Converse Subversives, Calgary artist Shona Rae uses narrative, figurative sculptures to engage fairy tales, folklore, ancient artifacts and personal history. Rae shifts perspectives by exploring how societies old and new deal with social inequalities, gender identification, ageism, rape, plague and political upheavals.

A professional clay sculptor before studying goldsmithing and the metal arts, Shona Rae received her diploma in applied art and design from the Kootenay School of the Arts (1998) and her BFA from the Alberta University of the Arts (2000). During the pandemic, Shona followed ‘…the paths of her dreams - incorporating highways of felt…’ into a new series of sculptures featured in her exhibition.
