Repurpose/Reimagine Contextural Residency Exhibition

Contextural is a community of textile artists fostering a cooperative creative environment in support of the production of artistic works. Contextural contributes to the artistic advancement of our members through access to a collaborative working environment, professional development and the exhibition of new work.

It’s an opportunity to form a new conception of how we utilize materials. Repurposing (or reshaping) can be related to cost effectiveness, aesthetic vision, or supply availability.

It’s a challenge to rethink established processes or combine techniques to change their intention or purpose. You might achieve a similar outcome starting with different ingredients via a completely different route.

It’s the delight in using something that already exists for another purpose and remodelling it for a different intent.

It’s a new way to adapt or incorporate sustainability into our creative process. Can we adjust how we work through our processes to keep them compatible while still maintaining quality results.

It’s a strategy to cope with changing requirements or updated formats. Has our final effort created what we had intended, or does it now reflect a changed awareness in the maker and in the viewer.
