all roses sleep (inviolate light) and Texting the Bees are included in an upcoming group exhibition at Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre.

all roses sleep blends how bees and humans experience and use the land around us. Shot using ultraviolet video, visitors are invited to see the prairie landscape from a bee’s point of view and smell a scratch-and-sniff card that expands on the pleasant and pungent experience. The work questions our shared future as the solitary bee searches and dreams of a rose.

Texting the Bees draws on the European tradition of ‘telling the bees,’ this practice was believed to ensure the bees stayed close and content. Sharing significant news or life events with the bees was thought to maintain harmony and prevent the bees from leaving. In this participatory work, audiences are invited to text a message to the bees sharing important news or events in their lives.

Text your message to the bees at (587) 602-4673

Upon texting, your message will be included in the next public presentation of this piece. Note: no emojis, emoticons only:)
