What lies in the dark

What lies in the dark is an ink-wash painting that explores the mystery and ambiguity of being alone in a city. I used watercolour paper and ink to create a contrast between the light and the shadow, revealing only a glimpse of the subject's silhouette in the dark alleyway. The painting challenges the viewer to question the identity, motive, and emotion of the hidden figure, and to reflect on their perception of loneliness and isolation. I chose to use black and white to enhance the sense of uncertainty and suspense, as well as to highlight the texture and detail of the urban environment. The painting is part of a four-piece collection that examines the different aspects and implications of solitude, and how it can affect one's outlook and behaviour.
