INSTITUTIONAL (LIES)

A multimedia piece made on 19 x 16 card stock paper with the use of acrylic pens, charcoal, and graphite pencils. This piece explores the corrupting influence of wealth. How it negatively impacts individuals almost leading them to be influenced by the idea of becoming rich. It also highlights the condemnation of violence and envy both of which arise from the existence of money. We are all, to some extent affected by norms and expectations. The marginalized and economically disadvantaged are constrained by factors such as incarceration, racism and class divisions while the affluent and influential are shaped by fear, rigid beliefs and the pursuit of wealth— the almighty dollar. In this game everyone ultimately loses; finding a new perspective is key. Additionally when we consider the term "institutionalized " there is an association with instability. Those who have been institutionalized are made to believe that there is “something”, with them when perhaps it's the institution itself that's flawed.
