Cognizant Vessel
The acrylic painting, “Cognizant Vessel”, is a piece that captures a personal self-reflection of myself and the changes that I have undergone from my youth and into my young adulthood. The four other figures in the background are meant to symbolize each different monumental stage in my life. The self-portrait of myself in the center is purposefully shown with layers of my outer appearance breaking apart ; this then reveals the inner, vulnerable vessel that has continued to carry me throughout my life. The veins are shown through a great mound of line work, and is intended to show the interconnectedness between my current self, and then the past versions of myself. This painting ultimately emphasizes upon self-awareness and perception of selves, and the revelations that follow from this.
