Ladybugs and Dinosaurs"Ladybugs and Dinosaurs" was the first piece in a three-piece series where I explored the question, “How can I explore nostalgia through colour?” By using bright and bold colours, especially neons, I wanted to evoke a sense of youth and playfulness associated with my childhood in the late 2000s and early 2010s. Inspired by impressionists, I chose to use no black anywhere in the piece, opting for dark blues and purple in its place. My main focus in this series was creating my own colour palette rather than copying the reference's colour palette one-for-one. I also experimented with brush strokes, and with being able to invoke a sense of form, with only a few lines rather than intense detail. Using technical skills learned from previous years, I created more abstract shapes within this series rather than super detailed forms. |
