Entrepreneurship

This program is designed to introduce artists and artisans to entrepreneurship.

Develop business acumen and management skills to be able to successfully start a new business or optimize an existing operation. Entrepreneurship is best learned through doing, so courses provide hands-on experience through practical projects, teamwork and simulations that will introduce all aspects of entrepreneurship within the arts. In addition to completing coursework in entrepreneurship, participate in co-curricular ensembles that further artistic skills while building entrepreneurial skill sets and abilities.

Admission Requirements

  1. Applicants should have, at a minimum, a Degree or Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution. 

    Canadian residents with international qualifications must provide an International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) evaluation indicating an equivalent level of education.
  2. Language Proficiency – English Language Proficiency (if educated outside Canada) 

    A score of 83% or higher on an official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) on the Internet-based test (iBT), with a minimum score of 20 in each of the four testing sections, or 220 on the computer-based test (CBT). 

    A score of 70% or higher on the Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) assessment, or a score of 70, or higher on the computer edition (CAEL CE).

    A score of 6.5 or higher on the International English Language Test (IELTS).

Completion Requirement

In addition to completing the required coursework, students will participate in elective courses OR professional development workshops that further artistic skills while building entrepreneurial skill sets and abilities.

Students are required to complete nine required courses, including a capstone project and can choose from two elective options.

  2. Complete at least 36 hours of a professional development workshops. Students can submit professional development taken elsewhere for assessment and consideration as a Professional Development equivalency.

Upon completion, students will receive a non-credit certificate administered by Alberta University of the Arts School of Continuing Education and Professional Development.
